Player terms
Last updated 24 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Smaz Games (smazgames.com), with or without an account. Smaz Games is owned and run by Saratoga Games ("we", "us"). We are based in Plattekloof, Cape Town, South Africa. By using the site you agree to these terms and the Acceptable use policy. Our Privacy policy and Cookie policy explain how we handle your information.
Who can use Smaz Games
Anyone can play as a guest. Accounts are for people aged 13 and over. If you are under the age at which you can agree to these terms where you live, a parent or guardian must read and agree to them for you.
Choose your real age group when you sign up. Teen accounts (ages 13 to 17) have some features turned off, as the Privacy policy describes. Developer accounts and playtests are for adults only.
Your account
There are no passwords on Smaz Games. You sign in with a six-digit code we email to you, or with Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple. If you use Google or Apple with the same email address as your Smaz Games account, they are linked to the same account.
- Use an email address you control. Anyone who can read your email, or get into your Google or Apple account, can sign in to your Smaz Games account, so keep those secure.
- Never share a sign-in code. We will never ask you for one.
- You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- Choose a username and avatar that follow the rules below. You do not need to use your real name or photo.
- Tell us at [email protected] if someone else gets into your account.
- You can download your data and delete your account at any time on the Account page. Deleting it is confirmed with a code we email to you, and it cannot be undone.
Developer accounts
The same sign-in can also hold a developer account, which is separate from your player profile. Submitting games is governed by the Developer agreement, which you accept when you create a developer account.
Saves
Progress saved in your browser is lost if you clear your browser data. Account saves are available for games that support them. We work to keep saves safe, but we cannot guarantee that a save will never be lost or that it will work with every future version of a game.
Badges
Badges are awarded automatically for activity on Smaz Games. They have no money value, cannot be exchanged for money or prizes, and cannot be traded, sold or transferred to another account. We may change how badges are worked out, or remove badges earned by breaking these terms.
Playtests
Adult players can opt in to playtests of unreleased games from their account preferences.
- Taking part is voluntary. You can decline a session or stop at any time.
- Playtests are unpaid unless a particular playtest says otherwise before it starts.
- Each session asks for your consent before recording. Only the game area is recorded, along with game events, your device type and any answers you give. The recording is shared with that game's developer and our staff, and is deleted 30 days after recording.
- Unreleased games in playtests are confidential. Do not share, record, stream, screenshot or describe them publicly, and do not share access to them, unless the developer has said you may.
- Feedback you give in a playtest can be used by the developer to improve the game, without payment to you.
Invite links
Some multiplayer games let you share an invite link to a game room. Share invite links only with people you want to play with. Do not post them publicly to disrupt games, or use them to send spam.
Rules
When you use Smaz Games, follow the Acceptable use policy. In particular, do not:
- Harass, threaten or bully anyone, including in multiplayer games, or post hateful, sexual or violent content about real people.
- Share someone else's personal information or contact details.
- Impersonate another person, use someone else's account or get around a block or suspension.
- Send spam or unwanted advertising.
- Cheat, exploit bugs to damage the site or other players, or use bots or scripts to fake plays, votes, ratings, badges or ad views.
- Try to access other players' accounts, saves, profiles or messages, or any part of the site you are not allowed into.
- Upload images you do not have the right to use.
- Interfere with the site, its security or the games on it.
If you find a security problem, report it to [email protected] and do not use or publish it.
Games by other developers
Some games on Smaz Games are made by other developers, and the game page names the developer. Those developers are responsible for their games. Each game runs in a separate sandboxed frame. A game may use its own services, such as multiplayer servers, and its game page will say so. When a game asks, the site can give it a player ID that is different in every game, your username, display name and whether you are under 18, so its server can confirm who is playing.
You may play games on the site for your own personal use. You may not copy, download for redistribution, or reuse a game or its artwork without the owner's permission.
Games marked as coming soon are not finished, and released games can change or be removed.
To report a game that infringes your copyright or other rights, see Copyright and intellectual property.
What you post
You keep ownership of what you post, such as your bio, profile picture and messages. You give us permission to store, display (to the people your settings allow), resize and moderate it so we can run the site.
We may review, edit or remove content, and limit or suspend accounts, if content or behaviour breaks these terms, puts people at risk, or the law requires it. Messages to developers are checked before they are delivered. Where it is safe and lawful, we will tell you what we did and why.
Reports
Use the “Something not right? Report it” button on a game page, or email [email protected], to report a broken game, harmful content or another player. A report does not by itself mean someone broke the rules; we look into it first. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.
If you disagree with a decision we made about your account or content, email us within 30 days and we will review it.
Availability and warranty
Smaz Games is free for players. We do not charge players and there are no purchases.
We try to keep the site and its games working, but we provide them "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that the site or any game will always be available, free of errors or suitable for a particular purpose.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of saves, badges, data or game progress. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including for our gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or your rights under the Consumer Protection Act or other consumer law that applies to you.
Ending your use
You can stop using the site and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or where the law requires it. We may also stop offering the site, with notice where practical.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of South Africa. If you live elsewhere, you keep the protection of any mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in your local courts where those laws allow.
Please contact us first so we can try to resolve any problem.
Changes
We may update these terms. We will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell signed-in players before it takes effect. If you keep using the site after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you do not agree, you can delete your account.
