Keeper Island

Look after Mo the sea otter on a tiny island: keep her warm, fed and dry, build it up, then signal a boat home.

A cozy island survival sim. You are a hand over a small island, and a sea otter lives there with you. You choose her coat (brown, golden or silver) and her name. Chop trees, gather wood, stones, berries and fibre, and build her a fire before night. Then work up through a water catcher, a shelter, a lantern, a cooking spit, a drying rack and a signal fire. The weather changes on its own. Clouds, rain, wind and fog come and go and overlap. Rain puts out fires and soaks your wood, the pool dries up on sunny days, and nights are cold. She has a life of her own: she warms herself by the fire, picks berries, drinks at the pool and sits out the rain in her shelter. You can also ask her to do things. She never dies. If she's left alone too long she collapses and waits until you come back to help her. Once a day a boat passes. If the signal fire is burning and the sky is clear, the boat rescues you. You can then go home to a new island, or stay. If you stay, the gull brings a map, and you can fish, plan trips and sail to a wilder island. The island saves itself in the browser, and when you come back the world has moved on gently.

Controls

Goal: keep her warm, fed and dry, build up the island, then light the signal fire and get rescued, or stay and keep playing. A guide teaches the basics as you play, and a to-do list always shows your next goals. Mouse: left-click to use your tool (chop, break rocks, pick up, light or feed the fire, feed or pet her, place buildings). Right-click gathers everything nearby. Drag to pan, wheel to zoom. Keyboard shortcuts: 1 Hand · 2 Axe · 3 Pick · 4 Build · 5 Ask · 6 Rod · WASD/arrows pan · C find her · F full screen · M map · Esc options. Touch: drag to pan, pinch to zoom, tap to act, long-press to gather.
