FAQ

Publishing

Does it cost anything to publish?

No. Publishing is free.

Is it exclusive?

No. You can publish the same game on your own site and other sites.

Can I earn money from my game?

Not yet. Revenue share is not active, and no payments are made to developers until a revenue-share schedule is published and you accept it. In-game purchases are not allowed at launch. See the Monetization policy.

Which engines can I use?

Any engine that exports a static web build: Unity WebGL, Godot, Phaser, Construct, PlayCanvas, Three.js, GameMaker HTML5, GDevelop, Defold, plain JavaScript and others. See Game requirements for settings some engines need.

How long does review take?

There is no fixed time and no guaranteed date. You get a notification when a decision is made. See Review process.

Why was my game sent back?

The feedback on the version in your dashboard says which rule applies. The Review and rejection policy lists every reason and how to fix it.

Can I appeal a decision?

Yes. Email [email protected] within 30 days with the game, the version and your reasons.

Will my game be featured?

Featured placement is chosen by the Smaz Games team. Approval does not include a featured place.

Can I remove my game?

Yes. Email [email protected] and we take it down within a reasonable time.

Builds

My game works locally but not on Smaz Games. Why?

Usually because of the sandbox. Uploaded games cannot use cookies, pop-ups, alert(), eval(), top-level navigation or files from sites that are not declared. Check the browser console in the private preview, then see The browser sandbox.

My Unity build shows a decompression error.

Set Compression Format to Disabled, or turn on Decompression Fallback. See Unity.

My Godot build says SharedArrayBuffer is not available.

Export without thread support. See Godot.

Can I change a file in a published game?

No. Builds cannot be changed after upload. Upload a new version; it replaces the live one when approved. See Versions and updates.

Can my game load files from my own server?

Only from addresses you list under Outside addresses on the upload form, and only content that stays within what was reviewed. Bundle everything you can in the ZIP.

SDK

Do I have to use the SDK?

No. A game without it can be published. Without it, the game can still save in the player's browser, but it cannot save to the player's account across devices, respond to the site's pause and mute buttons, offer rewarded ads, identify players or use invites.

How do I test the SDK before uploading?

Open your game from a local web server. The SDK runs in local test mode, and query parameters such as ?smazUser=test and ?smazAds=simulate let you try each path. See Install the SDK and test locally.

Can I use my own analytics?

Not inside the game. Use track() for custom events. You can ask for your own Google Analytics 4 property to receive your game's events.

Can I see who plays my game?

No. You see totals: plays, players, play time, devices, countries and retention. You never receive player names, emails or individual records. Your own servers can identify players by their per-game playerId through player tokens.

Multiplayer

Does Smaz Games host multiplayer servers?

No. You run your own servers or use a service of your choice. Smaz Games provides verified player identity, invite links and room codes. See Invites and multiplayer.

Can my game have chat?

Yes, with rules: free-text chat only for signed-in adults with a verified email (disableChat is false), preset messages or no chat for guests and players under 18, profanity filtering, and mute and report for every player.

Accounts

Why do I need to be 18 to upload?

The developer agreement is a contract, so the developer must be an adult. Players aged 13 and over can have accounts.

Can several people in a studio share a developer account?

Each account belongs to one person. Use one account to upload for your studio, and keep access to its email address private. Your studio name is shown on game pages.

How do I contact the Smaz Games team?

Use developer support or email [email protected].
