Versions and updates

A game on Smaz Games has one listing and any number of versions, up to 20. Each version is a separate, unchangeable upload with its own review. Players always see the last approved version.

Version labels

Every upload needs a label of up to 40 characters that has not been used for the game before, such as 1.0.0, 1.1.0-beta or 2026-11-02. Labels are shown to you and reviewers, and the error log shows which label each error came from.

Uploading an update

  1. On your dashboard, choose Upload new version on the game.
  2. The form starts with the details of the latest version. Change what you need, choose the new ZIP and media, and upload.
  3. Test the new version in its Private preview.
  4. Submit it for review.

While the update waits for review, the current live version stays live and unchanged. When the update is approved, it replaces the live version straight away. Players who have the game open keep the old version until they reload.

The game's address (/game/your-game-x7k) never changes, even if you change the title.

What an update can change

Everything in the upload form: the build, title, descriptions, controls, category, tags, devices, orientation, outside addresses, content declarations and media. All of it is reviewed again.

The developer agreement does not allow an approved game to change its content or the services it calls without a new version. If your game loads content from your own server, such as levels or events, that content must stay within what was reviewed and declared.

Saves across updates

Saves belong to the game, not to a version, so players keep their progress when you update. If your save format changes, increase schemaVersion and convert old saves when you load them. An earlier version can be restored after an update, so never delete data your game does not recognise. See Schema versions.

Previews

Private preview opens any version, approved or not, for you and the review team. A preview link lasts 15 minutes. Saves in previews are separate from live progress. Player tokens in previews are real and use your game ID.

Rollbacks

If an update has a serious problem, the Smaz Games team can restore an earlier approved version as the live version. Contact developer support and name the version you want restored. Then upload a fixed version as usual.

Coming soon listings

The Smaz Games team can mark an approved game as Coming soon. Its page shows the cover and description, and the game cannot be played until it is switched to released. Ask through developer support if you want this.

Removing a game

Email [email protected] to have a game removed. We take it down within a reasonable time. Copies may remain for a short time in caches and backups.

Studio name

The studio name on your game pages comes from your studio profile. Changing it updates the name on new versions.
